Mini Post 5: Massage for Union

Original Publication: Jan. 1, 2014 at

There are many benefits to massage, whether it is between couples or alone. Massage is a great way to connect with your partner on all levels: sexual, emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical. When we want to connect with someone emotionally we tend to reach out to them physically. I want to tell him I love him without saying anything; I push his hair aside and rest my hand on his shoulder and kiss his cheek. You want to comfort your friend as she tells you of her breakup you touch her hand or her forearm. Touch is how we connect with the world, with ourselves, and with others.

Learning how to massage, and no, I'm not telling you to become a professional masseuse, but learning how to use your hands, your body, to communicate and to connect with those you care about is invaluable. Massage will bring you closer to yourself and to your partner. When you give yourself a massage you connect with yourself, with your body. When you massage your partner you connect intimately with him or her and it allows you to learn the details of his or her body.

There are different types of massages and different ways to do it. Sometimes following your intuition is best. There is the sexual massage or the erotic massage. The medical massage to alleviate pain. The massage to cleanse the energies of the body and the aura. And there is the massage that is not sexual, just for comfort and relaxation. In this blog we won't talk about massage for medical purposes as I am not qualified to do so, but we will talk about everything else on that list.

Self-massage allows us to become whole in ourselves. And in order to join ourselves fully with someone we must first join with ourselves, we must first embrace ourselves. If we don't embrace our bodies when the time for sex comes we won't feel comfortable, we won't feel sexy, and we won't be able to both give and receive love. Love and sexuality are integral parts of our existence (Read the post Love Through The Different Bodies of the Soul to learn more about how love affects your whole existence) and touch or massage is just one way to get connect with those aspects of yourself.
